‘Tis the season when we reflect on all of our accomplishments over the last 12 months. December kicks off our countdown to the New Year where we get caught up in buying gifts and gift giving. Holiday music and movies can be heard and seen just about everywhere you turn. Once January 1st rolls around it’s time for many of us to start on our New Year’s resolutions we promised to devote ourselves to after the season. Instead of thinking of a resolution to better yourself, how about making a New Year’s resolution to give more back to your community?
The holiday season also reminds us that we are all fortunate to have the many things we do and the people in our lives each and every day. That warm fuzzy feeling we get just thinking about this often reminds us how important it is to give back to our community.
One of our Account Managers, volunteers four times a year to make and serve home cooked meals for COTS Inc., a non-profit organization vowing to end homelessness in the Fox Valley. Other employees volunteer their time to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, Winnegamie Dog Club, Winnebago Literacy Council and ReTh!nk Winnebago.
It is never too late to give back and help is never turned away. There are many ways to give of your time and talents. Donating to a local food bank and animal shelters is always welcomed. Other opportunities are to volunteer your time serving food at a homeless shelter, spending time with elderly who may be lonely or teaching free classes to the community who cannot afford continuing education. Imagine the feeling of serving a home-cooked meal to someone whom you’ve never met before and receiving a genuine smile. Money cannot buy gratitude and thankfulness. Sometimes accepting nothing in return can be the greatest gift of all.
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Churchill had it right. Making a living is nothing compared to making a life by giving back.
All of us at BrandDirections firmly believe in helping the community. Each year, individually and corporately we donate our time and resources to non-profit organizations.
During this holiday season, organizationally we are supporting the St. Joseph Food Bank in Menasha by collecting non-perishable food items. We invite everyone in the community to drop off non-perishable food items inside our offices at 333 N. Commercial Street, Suite 200, in Neenah. Our food drive will run through December 17.
